KCSS, in cooperation with its partner organization CENSS, hosted a delegation from Ukraine in Prishtina as part of a study visit within the project “Supporting Ukraine in Addressing the Risks of Small Arms and Light Weapons Proliferation.”
KCSS facilitated meetings with key security institutions, including various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police, the Kosovo Forensic Agency, the Ministry of Defense, and representatives of KLA veterans.
As Ukraine confronts the risks of arms proliferation resulting from Russia’s war of aggression, learning from international experiences is essential. Kosovo offers a valuable case study, having successfully undertaken post-conflict disarmament, aligned its arms control framework with EU standards, and implemented strategies to reduce illicit firearms.
The visit provided a platform for exchanging experiences in security sector reform, with a particular focus on Kosovo’s processes of disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration. Discussions emphasized both the challenges and achievements of Kosovo’s post-war transformation, offering practical lessons and insights that can inform Ukraine’s efforts to address similar risks and promote sustainable peace.
