Call for Applications: Facilitator for digital storytelling Workshop    

Project: Ethnically Marginalized Youth Empowerment in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina is financed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and is implemented by Kosovar Center for Security Studied, Centre for Security Studies BiH and Kosovo Institute for Research and Analysis. 

Title: Facilitator to conduct a workshop about digital storytelling on November 26-27, 2024 

Reports to: KCSS, Tringa Naka 

Duty Station: Prishtina, Kosovo and Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina 

Duration of Assignment: 2 days 

Background  

This project is supported by the Regional Programme on Local Democracy in the Western Balkans 2 (ReLOaD2), funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project "Ethnically Marginalized Youth Empowerment in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina" aims to amplify and harness the dynamic potential of ethnically marginalized youth, ensuring their pivotal role in shaping the region's future. Recognizing young people's diversity and challenges, especially among the marginalized, the initiative seeks to foster an inclusive environment where every voice is valued and heard.   

Digital storytelling provides a unique platform for youth to express their diverse identities and challenge prevailing stereotypes through personal narratives and creative expression. By harnessing digital media, young individuals from different ethnic backgrounds can share their stories, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity. This method of storytelling not only empowers participants to articulate their own experiences but promotes inclusivity and empathy within the community. The "Youth Digital Storytelling Workshop" will be organized from September 16 to September 17, 2024, to engage ethnically marginalized youth in Kosovo and Bosnia & Herzegovina, providing them the tools to craft and disseminate their stories effectively.  

Objective  

These terms of reference aim to define the role and responsibilities of the expert presenter facilitating the whole two-day workshop. The expert presenter will be expected to deliver a high-quality presentation that covers the following topics:  

Explore the basics of digital storytelling, its importance, and its role in advocacy and expression for ethnically marginalized youth.  

Teach to develop engaging stories with strong structure and character development, incorporating elements that reflect participants' cultural and personal identities.  

Discuss the ethical considerations in storytelling, focusing on respect for personal and cultural narratives and the safe sharing of sensitive information.  

Discuss ways to continue developing storytelling skills after the workshop and use these skills for community advocacy and empowerment.  

Tasks and Deliverables  

The expert presenter will be responsible for the following tasks and deliverables:  

Develop a comprehensive workshop agenda incorporating interactive sessions, practical exercises, and breaks.  

Prepare and submit detailed session plans and materials, including slideshows, handouts, and resource lists that participants can use during and after the workshop.  

Coordinate with the organizing team to meet all technical needs and logistical arrangements.  

Facilitate carefully open discussions and reflection sessions that allow participants to express their thoughts and share their experiences related to digital storytelling.  

Manage the workshop dynamics to foster a collaborative and inclusive atmosphere.  

Submit final narrative report for validation containing main findings and recommendations covering the above specified tasks including gender disaggregated data and other as relevant.  

Qualifications and Requirements  

Education:  

Master’s degree in political science, conflict management, development studies, or a related social science field.     

Experience:  

Proficiency in digital media software, including video editing tools, audio editing software, and content management systems.  

Strong understanding of the technical aspects of digital storytelling, such as scripting, shooting, and editing.  

Ability to troubleshoot common technical issues related to digital media production.  

Deep understanding of Kosovo's social and cultural dynamics, particularly related to ethnic marginalization.  

Languages:  

Fluency in spoken and written in English. Knowledge of Bosnian language would be an asset.   

Remuneration  

The remuneration for the expert presenter will be based on the agreed daily rate, which will determine the selected candidate's project budget, qualifications, and experience.

Interested candidates should submit their application by 15/11/2024, including the following documents: 

A curriculum vitae highlighting their relevant experience and qualifications (attaching diplomas). 

Two - page methodology explaining the method and techniques to be used for conducting a workshop, by providing information on the topics, including the draft agenda through incorporation of interactive sessions and practical exercises and a financial offer including daily rate. 

A sample of previous presentation, workshop, or training materials on a related topic, would be an asset.

The selection process will be based on the evaluation of the applications according to the following criteria: 

Relevance and quality of the experience and qualifications (70%). 

Relevance and quality of the sample presentation materials (30%). 

The shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview by 20/11/2024. The final selection will be made by 22/11/2024.
