SEEKING INCLUSIVENESS: ROMA, ASHKALI AND EGYPTIAN COMMUNITIES IN KOSOVO- SERBIA DIALOGUE

On 4th of December, Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) held a Roundtable Discussion with the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in Ferizaj. The aim of this roundtable was to gather their perspectives regarding their involvement in the Kosovo- Serbia Dialogue. The panel included of Mr. Asllan Kryeziu and Mr. Bajram Bajrami -who were directly involved in the last six months of the last Kosovo Government; and Mr. Bajram Ilazi, Executive Director of OJQ BRAN.

The panelists explained the involvement of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in the process of the Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. They were very vocal in stating that this Dialogue has excluded them, while creating a situation which puts K- Serbian community as the core minorities in Kosovo. Nonetheless, they explained how many representatives of these communities have pushed forward for their communities’ inclusion in such key process for Kosovo.

The participants expressed their concerns regarding their exclusion and their communities’ right of feeling safe in the state where they live. Furthermore, they stated that they are not at all informed regarding the technical agreements that have derived from this dialogue. The participants used this roundtable discussion to pose questions to the panelists related to their future inclusion in Kosovo- Serbia Dialogue.
