The KCSS is pleased to announce a new research initiative entitled "HOW CAN EUROPEAN AND REGIONAL PRACTICES BE USED TO ENHANCE THE IDENTIFICATION OF CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURES IN KOSOVO?" The purpose of this comprehensive report is to explore the complex world of safeguarding critical infrastructure, an undertaking that is essential in today's technologically advanced and interconnected society.
Just as technology shapes our world, it also exposes us to unprecedented risks. Kosovo, strategically positioned in the Balkan region, faces the monumental task of securing its critical infrastructure assets. The recently enacted Law on Critical Infrastructure (LCI) lays the groundwork, defining criteria for identifying European critical infrastructure (ECI) in Kosovo. However, implementation hurdles, including political crises and limited resources, have posed significant challenges.
European legislative frameworks are navigated in our report, drawing on the EU-NIS Directive 2 and successful models from countries like the UK, Sweden and EU member states. By aligning with these international practices, Kosovo can fortify its national resilience against both natural disasters and security threats, fostering a safer environment for its citizens.
A unified effort is needed to protect critical infrastructure. Kosovo's journey toward a robust CI sector demands collaboration not only on a national level but also through international partnerships, especially with the European Union. Providing financial assistance and exchanging knowledge is crucial to ensuring effective implementation of the LCI and fostering regional security cooperation.
By prioritizing the implementation of the LCI and embracing international best practices, we can bolster our nation's security and enhance public safety.
