Terms of Reference for Facilitator 

Ethnically Marginalized Youth Empowerment in Kosovo and Bosnia & Hercegovina 

Title: Facilitator for Intercultural Dialogue Circles Workshop on 30 November – 01-03-04 December 2024 

Duty Station(s): Prishtina, Kosovo and Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina  

Duration of Assignment: 4 days  

Background 

The project "Ethnically Marginalized Youth Empowerment in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina" aims to amplify and harness the dynamic potential of ethnically marginalized youth, ensuring their pivotal role in shaping the region's future. Recognizing young people's diversity and challenges, especially among the marginalized, the initiative seeks to foster an inclusive environment where every voice is valued and heard. 

The "Intercultural Dialogue Circles" activity will be organized from 30 November – 01-03-04 December 2024 and is designed to foster meaningful exchanges among youth from diverse ethnic backgrounds in Kosovo and Bosnia & Herzegovina. This initiative aims to break down cultural barriers, enhance mutual understanding, and cultivate respect through open dialogue. By providing a safe environment for participants to share their experiences and perspectives, dialogue circles will promote empathy, reduce prejudices, and encourage collaborative peace-building efforts in a multi-ethnic setting. 

Objective 

These terms of reference aim to define the role and responsibilities of the expert presenter facilitating the whole four-day workshop. The expert presenter will be expected to deliver a high-quality presentation that covers the following topics: 

An introduction to the fundamental concepts of intercultural dialogue, including the importance of cultural sensitivity and mutual respect. 

Techniques for managing and resolving conflicts that may arise from cultural misunderstandings. 

Strategies to increase awareness and appreciation of cultural differences among participants.  

Guiding participants in developing actionable plans to implement the lessons learned and promote intercultural understanding in their communities. 

Tasks and Deliverables 

The expert presenter will be responsible for the following tasks and deliverables: 

Developing a comprehensive agenda and session plans for the four-day Intercultural Dialogue Circles Workshop, outlining timings, topics, and hands-on activities for participant engagement. 

 Providing clear and effective instruction and guidance to participants throughout the workshop, ensuring they acquire essential Intercultural Dialogue Circles Workshop. 

Assisting participants in conceptualizing, creating, and editing their Intercultural Dialogue Circles Workshop, offering constructive feedback and support.  

Facilitating group discussions and reflections on the significance of Intercultural Dialogue Circles Workshop in promoting intercultural understanding and peace-building. 

  

Qualifications and Requirements 

The expert presenter should have the following qualifications and requirements: 

Education:  

A master’s degree in Cultural Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, International Relations, or a related field. 

Experience: 

At least two years of experience in facilitating workshops or dialogues focused on intercultural communication, diversity, and inclusion. 

Experience in conflict resolution and managing sensitive discussions. 

Languages: 

Fluency in spoken and written in English. Knowledge of Bosnian language would be an asset.  

 

Remuneration 

The assignment will be from 30.11.2024 – 01-03-04 December 2024, with an estimated four working days. The remuneration for the expert presenter will be based on the agreed daily rate, which will determine the selected candidate's project budget, qualifications, and experience. The remuneration will be paid in one installment, a total of 450 euros.

The selection process will be based on the evaluation of the applications according to the following criteria: 

Relevance and quality of the experience and qualifications (70%). 

Relevance and quality of the sample presentation materials (30%). 

The shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview by 20/11/2024. The final selection will be made by 22/11/2024.
