The third Security Research Forum was held in Belgrade on the 31st October 2013 with the main discussion on the public perception on security, rule of law, and inter-ethnic relations on the three respective countries, Kosovo, Albania, and Serbia. The conference was hosted by Belgrade Center for Security Policy (BCSP), as a partner on the regional consortium ‘Security Research Forum: Prishtina-Belgrade-Tirana’, with Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) from Kosovo, Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) from Albania and Belgrade Center for Security Policy (BCSP) from Serbia.
The major findings of public opinion survey highlighted the support of the majority of citizens in Albania and Serbia towards the continuity of dialogue between Prishtina and Belgrade, even if the membership in EU is not a final condition; while emphasized that the citizens of Kosovo support the dialogue only in that guarantees and increases the chances of EU membership.
Executive Director of KCSS, Florian Qehaja, pointed out that almost half of the respondents believe that peaceful coexistence between Albanians and Serbs is possible, with the exception of the Serbs in the northern part of Kosovo that continue to be a bit skeptical on the question of possibility of coexistence between Serbs and Albanians.
The public opinion survey "The Perceptions of the Citizens on the Albanian-Serbian Relations and the Regional Security Cooperation" was based on the same questionnaire and it was conducted in Serbia, Kosovo and Albania during the first three weeks of October 2013 as part of the regional consortium ‘Security Research Forum: Prishtina-Belgrade-Tirana’, of the Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) Belgrade Center for Security Policy (BCSP) and Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) from Tirana.
