1st Workshop: Introductory Course on Security Sector Governance and Oversight

Prishtina, 23 – 25 February 2011

Venue: Hotel Afa, Ali Kelmendi Street 15, Prishtina, Kosovo.

Abstract:

The Center for Security, Development and Rule of Law (DCAF) in conjunction with Kosovar Center for Security Studies (KCSS) will organize the “Introductory Course on Security Sector Governance and Oversight”. This is the first event part of the Kosovo Young Faces Network (KYFN) selected participants.

The aim of this course is to provide the KYFN participants with:

Ø  the comprehensive overview on issues and challenges related to the security sector governance and oversight;

the basic information regarding the role of the security providers and their oversight actors;

to introduce the participants with the importance of the democratic control and oversight in the security sector;

Ø  to introduce the role of the parliamentary control in the security sector;

to highlight the importance of the role of civil society and media in overseeing the security sector;

Ø  to improve the technique of the participants in drafting the professional research documents (e.g. policy paper drafting); and

Ø  to allow the participants to discuss on security sector issues in Kosovo and in the region.

The Key DCAF and KCSS excperts are expected to deliver presentations.
