Today the conference entitled"The context of the development of the Strategic Review of the Security Sector in Kosovo’ - views of civil society" was held. This conference was organized by the KosovarCenter for Security Studies in support of the project for the Democratic Control of the Security Sector in Kosovo within the GIZ. Panellists included: Deputy Minister of the KSF, Mr. Bejtush Gashi, Member of the Assembly of Kosovo from theKosovo's Future Alliance, Mr. BurimRamadani, Former Deputy of the German Bundestag, Mr. Reinhold Robbe, and Mr. Florian Qehaja, director of the KosovarCenter for Security Studies.
In this conference,panellists and participants had the opportunity to discuss the Strategic Review process in the Kosovo security sector as well as the role of civil society and its involvement in this process.
Participants were informed about the progress of the RSSS, as well as the challenges facing the RSSS process. The participants assessed the review process as being generally non-transparent and non-inclusive. So, it was asked that the Government include reviews ofother non-governmental actors in the working groups, as the Government pledged in its decision for the beginning of theRSSS. This decision will ensure transparency and inclusiveness in RSSS, and include civil society and the academia in the process.
The discussion was open to relevant stakeholders in the field of security, where the participants raised the need for the RSSS activities to be more transparent and inclusive so that civil society, academia and experts can be involved in the reviewing process.
