POLICE INTEGRITY, INTERNAL CONTROL AND EXTERNAL OVERSIGHT

Kosovar Center for Security Studies (KCSS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) organized a roundtable on the topic entitled "Police Integrity, internal control and external oversight" in Prishtina on 13.11.2013. The conference was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kosovo Police, Kosovo Assembly, civil society, the international presence in Kosovo as well as independent experts in the field.

About Project

The purpose of this conference was to assess the challenges that Kosovo security institutions are facing in maintaining its integrity, and to identify best practices of different countries in maintaining the integrity that were offered by international experts in this conference. This meeting pointed out that the Kosovo Police is facing difficulties in maintaining its integrity, especially the major challenges were observed in public procurement KP and respect for human rights by police officers.

Panelists and participants emphasized the need for increased cooperation between law enforcement bodies with independent oversight agencies and the Assembly in order to improve their performance, as well as increase transparency and accountability of the security institutions in Kosovo.

 

KCSS thanks DCAF and the Ministry of Internal Affairs for cooperation in organizing this conference. KCSS will continue to contribute in strengthening and promotion of good governance in the security sector, including the integrity of the security institutions.
