STRENGTHENING INTEGRITY IN THE KOSOVO POLICE

The aim of the project is to promote institutional transparency of the Kosovo Police (KP) as well as monitoring and assessing the performance, internal governance and integrity of the KP in combating police corruption and preventing conflict of interest caused by police officers.

About Project

In the framework of the Programme on Integrity in the Security Sector, Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) since December 2019 has commenced on implementing the project “Strengthening Integrity in the Kosovo Police”. The main purpose of this project is to promote institutional transparency of the Kosovo Police (KP) as well as monitoring and assessing the performance, internal governance and integrity of the KP in combating police corruption and preventing conflict of interest caused by police officers.

During the implementation of the project activities, monitoring and assessing of the implementation of the KP Integrity Strengthening Plan will be carried out that implies to increase internal transparency of the KP and undertaking measures to improve the fight against police corruption and prevention of conflict of interest.

Another project objective is to strengthen the integrity and good governance in the KP through addressing issues relating to tackling police corruption and preventing conflict of interest. This objective will monitor the management of complaints by the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo against police officers involved in corruption and conflict of interest cases investigated by the A nti-Corruption Agency at the senior police officers level. It is worth mentioning that cases of police corruption investigated by the Prosecution as a criminal offense will be monitored during the project implementation stage.

In addition, KCSS intends implementation of the project recommendations by the Kosovo Police, Police Inspectorate of Kosovo, Prosecution and Anti-Corruption Agency in terms of prevention, reducing and combating police corruption and prevention of conflict of interest to police officers regardless of their ranks and positions.

The project will last a year and is supported by Kosovo Foundation for Open Society (KFOS).
