ROUNDTABLE ON PREVENTING AND COMBATING VIOLENT EXTREMISM IN KOSOVO

TRYEZË E RRUMBULLAKËT PËR PARANDALIMIN DHE LUFTIMIN E EKSTREMIZMIT TË DHUNSHËM NË KOSOVË

Kosovar Center for Security Studis on 5th of May has organized a roundtable in Prishtina regarding the Causes and Consequences of Kosovo citizens’ involvement as foreign fighters in Middle East, as well as extremism in gjeneral. This event was attended by 30 participants, all the relevant stakeholders as representatives from religiuos institutions, state, civil society, media (as participants not reporters), and other experts of this field. Meeting was moderated by Shpend Kursani and it was characterized as a produktiv and living debate from all of the participants.

As base for this meeting have been used the findings of the latest report published by Kosovar Center for Security Studies on the same topic, from the author Shpend Kursani. The aim of this meeting was that through open discussion to create space for criticsm and evaluation regarding the report,  in order to serve as lessons learned for the next projects and efforts of KCSS in this field. Along the meeting was griven critics, evaluation and different point of view from participants belonging to the different public areas on the content of report.

Futhermore, in this meeting was discussed and given numerous of recommendation concerning the approach to be taken as a society and comprehensive policy that should be implemented to prezent and combat the violent extremism in Kosovo.

This table was evaluated very high from participants who showed great interest, results of which in exceded the time provided in the agenda of the day. They said that such discussion were lacking in our society and in the same time  expressed their willingness to participate and contribute in future meeting of such character.
