Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) team participated at the Kick-off Meeting of the PERCEPTIONS project funded within the European Commission’s programme research and innovation action of Horizon 2020. A three-day meeting took place in Vienna from 10-12 September 2019 and it was attended by representatives of all partner organizations of the project. Furthermore, this meeting marked the commencement of the project titled “Understand the Impact of Novel Technologies, Social Media, and Perceptions in Countries Abroad on Migration Flows and the Security of the EU & Provide Validated Counter Approaches, Tools and Practices” that is directly linked to challenging issues of migration and will last 36 months.
This is the third project where the KCSS is an implementing partner of the Horizon 2020 project consortiums in Kosovo, while the project is led by SYNYO, a global-acting company-based in Austria which is focused on research, innovation and technology. Besides the KCSS, other partners of the project involve renowned universities, research institutes and think tanks among European countries and beyond.
The main objectives of the PERCEPTIONS project are to identify narratives, images and perceptions of Europe abroad, and which narratives could lead to problems, false expectations, security threats or even radicalisation in what way. Another, key objective of the project is to create a toolkit of creative and innovative measures to react or even counteract on them, considering social, societal and structural aspects.
