KCSS in conjunction with Institute for the Study of Human Rights as well as the Harriman Institute of Columbia University, organized a follow up seminar on preventing extremism in Kosovo. The seminar took place on the 5th of May, at Columbia University. The seminar was chaired by Mr. Florian Qehaja (KCSS) and Mr. David Phillips (Columbia University). After welcoming remarks from Mr. Alex Cooley (Harriman Institute), the contribution was provided by Mrs. Helena Kane Finn, former Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Her discussion was focused on the links between weak educational system and raise of extremism, by providing concrete examples on reducing further widespread of radicalization.
The seminar was a follow-up to the recent "Roundtable on Countering Radicalization in Kosovo," which was based on the Huffington Post article titled "Countering Islamic Radicalization and Violent Extremism in Kosovo", and KCSS "Report inquiring into the causes and consequences of Kosovo citizens’ involvement as foreign fighters in Syria and Iraq.” The seminar gathered 15 distinguished experts in the field and it was under the Chatham House Rules.
