On Friday, 21 June 2019, Global Initiative together with Kosovar Centre for security Studies (KCSS) hosted the Roundtable discussion entitled Civil Society against Organized Crime in the Western Balkans. The aim of the event was to present the Report on Hotspots of organized crime in the Western Balkans: Local vulnerabilities in a regional context as well as a discussion on the role of civil society to counter organized crime in the Western Balkans.

The Global Initiative’s Civil Society Observatory to Counter Organized Crime in South Eastern Europe was launched in August 2018 with the aim of enhancing local cooperation amongst civil society in the fight against organized crime and corruption. Recently, the Observatory released a substantive report on hotspots of organized crime in the Western Balkans. Focusing on Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia the report maps local vulnerabilities throughout the region and seeks to uncover the interconnectedness of illicit activities and organized criminal groups.

The same format of the roundtable was co-organized By Global Initiative in cooperation with civil society organizations across the Western Balkans.
