The Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) organized a one-day online methodology seminar with a focus on qualitative and quantitative research methodologies on Friday, December 2, 2022. The seminar was led by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Wagner from the University of Marburg and Prof. Dr. Werner Distler from the University of Groningen.
The program included a thorough discussion of using qualitative and quantitative research methods to comprehend a situation and design an evidence-based intervention. In this regard, the trainers focused their attention on how to conduct a survey in the field, what kinds of questions should be used when conducting quantitative research, how to construct a questionnaire, and how to select an appropriate sample for the requirements of particular quantitative research projects.
On the other hand, the training also covered a general review of qualitative research, as well as when, why, and how to employ it depending on various contexts and circumstances. In this regard, the seminar included a session on conducting qualitative interviews, and it was concluded with a discussion on research ethics and the ethical ramifications of various research initiatives.
The participants of the training included young students and local activists from the Kosovo Albanian and Kosovo Serbian communities and the research staff of Kosovar Centre for Security Studies and New Social Initiative. The participants provided an evaluation of the seminar and actively participated in discussing practical examples of the topics covered by the seminar.
This seminar was organized in the framework of the “FIERC - Fostering Inter-Ethnic Cooperation and Reconciliation”, implemented by the Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) in cooperation with the New Social Initiative (NSI). This project is supported by the Stability Pact Fund of the German Federal Foreign Office.
