KCSS ORGANIZED THE FIRST WORKSHOP ON GOOD GOVERNANCE IN THE SECURITY SECTOR

Kosovar Centre for Security Studies has organized the first workshop on Good Governance in the Security Sector, on 16 to 18 October 2015 in Durres, Albania. This workshop is organized within the Module on Security and Rule of Law, which is part of the joint efforts of the Kosovo institutes in the framework of the common platform – European Integration School.

This workshop aimed to familiarize and discuss with the participants the most important areas that characterize the governance of the security sector, such as: Relations between Kosovo and European Union (EU); EU criteria’s for the Kosovo security sector; Challenges, threats and risks to national security of Kosovo; Regional cooperation in the security sector; The integrity of the security institutions in Kosovo and the role of media and civil society in overseeing the security sector.

In addition to our knowledge and expertise, KCSS for this purpose among others has invited a number of local and regional speakers. Participants in this workshop were a number of representatives of the Kosovo institutions, including security, justice, civil society, media and representatives of the municipal level.

The aim of the Module for Security and Rule of Law is to offer a special program of non-formal education on the issues pertaining development and reform of the security sector in Kosovo. This module focuses on specific processes in the context of the broad scope of security and the rule of law by addressing in particular segments of particular importance in the process of Kosovo's membership in the European Union (EU). Our aim is to contribute in raising the level of knowledge and awareness of participants of the European Integration School about the development and reform of the security sector in Kosovo, the integrity of the security institutions and regional cooperation in the security field.
