Kosovar Center for Security Studies (KCSS) today, on the 2nd March 2017, has organized a conference in Municipality of Kaçanik as a part of the project “Countering violent extremism in Kosovo”, supported by the US State department in cooperation with US Embassy in Prishtina.
Panelists in this conference were:
Mr. Besim Ilazi, Mayor of the Municipality of Kaçanik
Mr. Isa Tershana, Islamic Community in Kosovo
Mr. Jaser Jaha Deputy Commander at the Police Station in Kaçanik
This panel was moderated by Vesë Kelmendi- researcher at Kosovar Center for Security Studies (KCSS).
The audience of this conference was composed by variety groups within Kaçanik municipality, representatives of communities, civil society organizations, youth organizations and representatives of the media as well. Each community leader presented challenges and problems they encounter in their communities and offered recommendations on how to prevent violent extremism and radicalization. They appreciated the role of this conference, and emphasized the importance of organizing these kind of events, in order to know more about phenomenon of violent extremism and radicalization, and finding means and opportunities of combating and preventing this phenomenon.
Moreover, during the conference the importance of organizing such an events was mentioned as a mean which will contribute directly in awareness raising against violent extremism and radicalization in Kosovo, and the importance of the cooperation between state authorities and citizens in prevention of violent extremism.
