COUNTERING VIOLENT EXTREMISM IN KOSOVO- ENGAGEMENT OF COMMUNITY IN PREVENTION

Kosovar Centre for Security Studies is continuing with its activities in organizing discussions on raising the awareness of citizens against the violent extremism in Kosovo, and prevention of violent extremism in Kosovo. KCSS has organized the a roundtable discussion entitled “Countering violent extremism in Kosovo- engagement of community in prevention” with the main aim to raise citizens awareness regarding the negative consequence of violent extremism in Kosovo, and the coordination of institutional activities, media, civil society, and the Islamic Association in Kosovo (IAK) on countering an prevention of violent extremism in Kosovo.

In this meeting it was assessed that violent extremism presents risk in Kosovo, and the state institutions need to raise the level of activities in order to address this phenomena. It was also mentioned that the role of the IAK and the Muslim community in Kosovo is very important on countering violent extremism in Kosovo. KCSS has also presented some of the findings on the latest analysis on countering the extremism group’s propaganda. This event was attended by the representatives of local municipality of Podujeva, Kosovo Police, Islamic Association in Kosovo, Kosovo Government, media, civil society, international presence in Kosovo.

KCSS will continue to organizw meetings in other municipalities of Kosovo, with the aim to raise the awareness of citizens against violent extremism in Kosovo, and will advocate for more activities in prevention of the phenomena.
