KCSS RESEARCHER, SOFIJE KRYEZIU DELIVERED A PRESENTATION ON THE OCCASION OF THE DATA PROTECTION DAY

KCSS researcher, Sofije Kryeziu has been part of the panel at the conference organized by the National Agency for the Protection of Personal Data on the occasion of the Data Protection Day. In this event the researcher delivered a presentation on "The Role of Civil Society in the Protection of Personal Data and Privacy" by informing the participants about the role of civil society in the Protection of Personal Data, ie activities carried out by KCSS in the field of personal data protection in the past four years. Besides this, the presentation focused on the Kosovo citizens' awarenes regarding the Personal Data Protection and Privacy. The main purpose of the presentation was to emphasize the need to raise the awareness of citizens for the protection of personal data, given that in the survey conducted in late 2013 by KCSS, over 70% of citizens stated that they do not have knowledge about their rights to privacy and personal data protection.

Mr. Ruzdi Jashari, Chief National Supervisor / NAPDP made opening remarks, informing the participants on the role of the Agency in protecting data.

His Excellency Mr. Jan Braathu, Ambassador of Norway, Mr. Christof Stock, Head of Cooperation - EEAS / EU , and Mr. Ahmet Isufi, Chairman of the Security Committee in the Assembly all gave speeches in the area of the personal data protecton.

A good part of the organization was reserved for panelists who presented papers on issues concerning the protection of privacy and personal data.

The panel was consisted of:

Mr. Mentor Hoxhaj, Deputy Chief National Supervisor / NAPDP opened the panel discussion as well as held a presentation on the topic entitled: Privacy and applications in smart phones;

Ms. Sofije Kryeziu, Kosovar Center for Security Studies delivered a presentation on the Role of Civil Society in Personal Data Protection and Privacy;

Mr. Tanzer Abazi, DARTS unveiled a very practical character guide about safe use of internet, especially emails entitled How to maintain privacy; and

Mr. Andras Jori, Data Protection Expert delivered a speech related to the topic of the conference.

Characteristic of this year's Data Protection Day was the completion of the project "My Privacy", organized by NAPDP and Ministry of Education, Science and Technology with the aim of sensibilization of the public on the protection of privacy and personal data. For this occasion, ten schools were selected coming from ten municipalities, and six winners were announced at the central level where KCSS researcher, Sofije Kryeziu was invited to deliver one of the awards for a winner.
