KCSS Executive Director, Dr. Florian Qehaja during his visit in the United States had a conversation with Professor Alon Ben-Meir - expert in political issues and Middle East affairs, specialized in peace negotiations between Israel and the Arabic states.
Qehaja and Ben-Meir discussed about the phenomenon of violent extremism across the globe, focusing on the Middle East, North Africa and the Balkans.
The Director of KCSS, during this conversation said that violent extremism in the Balkans is a new phenomenon which is challenging security. “It's definitely an agenda that has come from the Middle East". Among others, Qehaja spoke about the causes of radicalism in the Balkans, emphasizing some of the challenges in the context of the Western Balkans such as lack of education, the lack of debate and critical thinking in schools and the fact that this has led that some radicalized imams have become more attractive for some young people.
